The Challenge:
In April 2020, KBX Tech Ltd was asked to join a consortium of local engineering companies in Wiltshire & Hampshire to print a bespoke PPE face mask design for front line workers.
During April and September we collectively printed & distributed over 3000 units to various NHS and associated frontline workers in the following groups:
NHS Hospital (doctors/nurses etc) – including Portsmouth/Southampton/Newbury/Cardiff health trusts
Dedicated regional COVID centres – Southampton/Portsmouth/Newbury
GP surgeries GP’s/nurses/receptionists etc) – including Swindon/Portsmouth/Southampton/Hungerford
Care Homes – Various homes across Berkshire
Mental Health centres – Northampton
Dentists – Various
Police Forces
The visors had universal praise, both in terms of design and comfort as practical and durable PPE.
There has been a lot of press on PPE and initiatives like ours to help the cause and though all different I like to think our community and our direct distribution contacts have helped make immediate, positive impact to those that we have been able to help.
As an effort it has shown the impact a community can make and on a professional level, how we can leverage this community to turn the typically pedestrian FDM prints into a factory able to deliver volume in short time frames.
